Palo Santo Powder (Bursera Graveolens)
Palo santo powder is the warm wood base of every Smoked Jasmine Incense Stick, and the foundation of every stick in the Meditation Collection. The wood is wild-harvested in Peru under SERFOR certification, the Peruvian National Forest Service standard for legal and sustainable harvest. Every tree has fallen naturally and aged on the forest floor for at least four years. The palo santo is also where the smoked character of this stick comes from. The wood burning underneath the jasmine is what gives the floral note its warm, smoky depth instead of the bright, candy-sharp character you get from charcoal-based incense. Indian dhoop sticks use jigat tree bark for binding. I use palo santo. The wood is part of the scent.

Real jasmine petals are dried and worked into the Smoked Jasmine Incense Stick paste by hand. The petals carry the warm, slightly honeyed character that real jasmine is known for, with none of the bright, candy-like sharpness of synthetic jasmine fragrance oil. Most jasmine incense on the market is a fragrance-dipped stick with no actual jasmine anywhere in the formula. The smell is one-dimensional and quickly fades. Real jasmine petal incense smells completely different when it burns. The notes are warmer, more complex, and grounded in the natural sugars of the dried plant.
